A little bit about me

I have been a public speaker for over 35 years. Most of my speaking has been in my previous role as a pastor within a local church. Over the last few years, my speaking has expanded to include numerous conferences, churches, and leadership gatherings, and most recently I have transitioned into public speaking as part of my fulltime vocation.

At this season of my life and leadership, I’m specifically passionate about speaking on topics related to these four areas:

  1. Helping Christians become more like Christ
  2. Helping Christians focus their lives, so they can live a more fruitful and fulfilling life, as a follower of Christ
  3. Helping Congregations become disciple making communities
  4. Helping Christian leaders live well while they lead well

My most requested topics

I speak on topics related to discipleship, spiritual growth, intentional living, and on health and wholeness for Christian leaders.

My most requested topics include the following. I can present these as a plenary talk, workshop, seminar, or breakout session.

For Congregations:

  • Why I’m No Longer A Christian (Plenary Talk)

The church is desperate to see people return to an authentic walk with Jesus Christ. Cultural Christianity just “isn’t getting it.” There is a desperate desire to return to making authentic, practical, and passionate disciples (followers) of Jesus Christ. In this talk I tell my own story of “Why I’m No Longer A Christian” (a cultural Christian), and contrast today’s “‘cultural Christian” with 4 earmarks of an authentic disciple of Jesus Christ. This talk has helped hundreds of people re-think what it means to authentically follow Christ. • My Million Dollar Spiritual Growth Talk  (Plenary Talk)

In this talk I share the two essential things I wish I had learned much earlier in my spiritual growth. This talk helps people understand the basic content needed for spiritual growth and provides a basic framework for spiritual growth. People will walk away from this talk being inspired to spiritually grow, and given practical instruction on how to expedite their spiritual growth.

  • Shaped By Life: Navigating Life’s Unforeseen Turns (Plenary Talk)

Live long enough and unforeseen turns happen to all of us – a healthy marriage crumbles, a child becomes an addict, a meaningful friendship abruptly ends, a parent’s health rapidly declines, a routine check-up reveals cancer, a long awaited child arrives deformed – and how we navigate through these times, ultimately determines who we become. Therefore it isn’t a question of if life will shape us, it’s only a matter of how will it shape us. Using my own journey with tragedy, I offer 5 overarching principles for helping people wisely navigating through life’s unforeseen turns and as a result allow God to shape us into the person we hope to become. This talk has relevance to everyone, because everyone has dealt with some degree of adversity.  Click here to view this teaching.

  • What Gift Will You Give God? (Plenary Talk)

God wants every person to be a good steward of the life He has given us. In this talk I inspire people to live their life with purpose, and in the process become the person God wants them to become and accomplish the things God has given them to accomplish. In this talk I propose the idea that the gift we give back God is determined by what we’ve done with the life God’s given us.

  • How To Become Like Jesus (Workshop)

In this workshop I help Christians understand the essential content needed to become more like Jesus, and then offer a practical framework on how to become more like Jesus.  This is not a step-by-step formula but it does provide the inspiration and instruction to help a person clearly move – in a proactive way – into more of the nature of Christ. If you want your congregation to grow in spiritual maturity – this workshop is extremely helpful.

  • What’s Your NEXT?  (Workshop)

In this workshop I help Christians discover their unique personal life mission’s statement (from a biblical perspective), and help them focus their live and become more fruitful as a follower of Jesus Christ. Those who attend this workshop will leave inspired to live an intentional life and have their own customized plan on how to do so.

For Pastors And Christian Leaders:

  • Staying Power: 5 Core Ideas To Sustainability In Christian Leadership (Plenary Talk or Workshop)

The current state of Christian leadership is at a crisis. Many of our own stories and almost all of the stats on Christian leadership today only confirm this fact. In this talk (or workshop), through my own life and leadership, I help other pastors and Christian leaders consider 5 Core Ideas To Sustainability In Christian Leadership. This talk and workshop is helping many, many pastors and Christian leaders.

  • A Christian Leader’s Healthy Heart Checkup  (Workshop/Breakout Session)

In this workshop I help pastors/Christian leaders assess the current state of their inner life and then offer practical ways to live and lead out of a heart that’s healthy and whole.  This workshop is especially helpful for pastoral teams within a local church, a group of pastors within the same geographic region or within a denominational affiliation.

  • 6 Stages of Development In The Life Of A Leader (Workshop/Breakout Session)

In this workshop I share the 6 stages of development in the life of a leader, help leaders understand where they are at in the leadership development process and help them understand what the next stage is and how to get there.  This workshop is extremely helpful to help leads gain a broader perspective of what maybe currently happening in their life as a leader and will help a leader move toward a great focus in their life and leadership. This workshop can be done for pastoral teams within a local church or a group of pastors within the same geographic region or denominational affiliation.

  • Identifying and Breaking Growth Plateaus In The Life of a Leader (Workshop/Breakout Session)

In a recent survey I did among pastors and Christian leaders, this topic had the highest interest among those surveyed. In this workshop I help pastors and Christian leaders assess if they are in a personal growth plateau and how to move to the next area of personal growth for their life and leadership. This workshop is extremely helpful for pastoral teams within a local church, a group of pastors within the same geographic area, or within your denominational affiliation.

  • A Practical Guide For Turning Churches Into Disciple-Making Communities (Plenary Talk or Workshop)

Most pastors know that we are not producing disciples, yet we sincerely desire to. There is a great cry in the church world today to return to God’s mandate to “go and make disciples.” In this talk (or seminar), I help pastors think through, in very practical ways and with some very practical steps, how to move their churches from a consumer congregation to a disciple-making community.

  • 6 Steps For Building And Maintaining Unity In The Local Church (Workshop/Breakout Session)

The church is (should be) built upon relationships, however, knowing how to build and maintain unity in the local church is one of our greatest challenges. In this talk (or seminar), I communicate from my own 30 plus years of Christian leadership, some very practical lessons on how to build and maintain unity in the local church.

What others are saying

I have had the privilege of overseeing Ken Roberts as a pastor and seeing him engage with leaders in our region as an author and a speaker.  Ken’s ability to communicate clearly in an applicable way has made his presentation on the subject of “Staying Power” inspiring to leaders.  Ken combines humor, storytelling, and passion as he communicates the principles that can help a leader gain “staying power” and finish well.  I highly recommend Ken as a speaker to leaders.

– Dan Mundt, Supervisor of the Heartland District of the Foursquare Church, hdfoursquare.com

Pastor Ken Roberts ministered in our church this past month on the subject of Navigating Life’s Unforeseen Turns. All I can say is, “Wow!” What a powerful and practical message to help people right where they are – navigating life! I would highly recommend Pastor Ken and his ministry as he speaks from a place of transparency and experience which in turn gives him authority to address the subject matter. Having known Ken for almost thirty years I can attest to his life and character. You will be glad you had him!

– Pastor Erik Tammaru, Lead Pastor Lifechurch of Maryland, l3church.com

God is using Ken Roberts to lovingly equip Pastors & Ministry Leaders to stay the course and end strong. Ken feeds the soul of those leading the charge with strategies appropriate for the hour in which we live.  His message is personal, practical and needed. Ken attracted our largest attendance in the last 18 years which turned into a resounding call to bring him back to expand on the message.  I highly recommend Ken’s life and his timely message to leaders.

– Charles P. Daugherty, Facilitator of Serve The City, Cedar Rapids Iowa, servethecity.org

If you are looking for a speaker who has lived the “real world” of ministry for many years but has not waned in his passion for Jesus, Ken Roberts is your man. Ken is authentic, flexible, and just simply allows the Holy Spirit flow freely without being weird. We had Ken for our Minister’s Retreat and our ministers connected easily with him and were refreshed by his ministry. You won’t be disappointed!

– Terry G. Bailey District Superintendent Tennessee Assemblies of God Ministry Network www.tnaog.org

The church desperately needs a Biblical theology of pain, loss and suffering that is not only taught, but modeled.  That’s what Ken Roberts, in his book and teaching ministry, brings from his life experience. Ken’s ministry is doctrinally grounded but experientially relevant.  As a guest minister, he’s easy to work with and connects well with his audience whether it’s a Sunday morning congregation or a room of pastors and Christian leaders.

– Rev. Donna Barrett, Lead Pastor Rockside Assembly of God Independence, Ohio, rocksidechurch.com

Ken Roberts is a minister in good standing in the Minnesota District Council of the Assemblies of God. He has recently written the book, Unexpected: Navigating Life’s Unforeseen Turns, and it has been received very well. Ken is a strong pastor in our District, and leads a dynamic church on two campuses.  Ken is faithful to his church, his section, and the entire District. God has been using him to inspire young leaders. I highly recommend his ministry to you.

– Clarence W. St. John Superintendent Minnesota District Council, mnaog.org

Ken Roberts is a dispenser of HOPE. His ability to take the principles of scripture and make them simple and applicable to life is amazing. And what makes it even more amazing is that his life models what he teaches. I read Ken’s book Unexpected during a dark season in my life. His story of how he navigated the unexpected death of his wife became God’s word to lead me back to hope.

I asked Ken to minister to our church family and he immediately connected. His genuineness and his passion for God and His people opened the way for his teaching ministry. Lives were changed and hope was restored in many.

– Pastor Randy Carter Northside Assembly of God Jackson, Tennessee, northsideaog.org
